What does it mean to be connected with yourself?
It means to be aware and in tune with your thoughts, emotions, sensations, impulses and desires.
It does not mean to be forcefully happy or a fake optimism but to be PRESENT, to be in the now despite it all, to sit with your experience even if your present experience is not pleasant.
Why is it important to be connected with yourself?
Life is full of changes; moving to a new city, changing careers, the end of relationships, the passing of a loved one and so on.
Change is just part of life!
But this is the thing:
You can’t always control the things that happen in your life, but you do have a
POWER TO CONNECT WITH YOURSELF and be in the driver's seat of your inner world.
How do you practice inner connection?
1. NOTICE, don’t immediately believe what your mind or emotions say.
They don’t always have your best interest in mind. We have these tendencies, that can be auto-sabotaging without us being aware of them and fall into patterns that aren’t nurturing but the complete opposite.
Noticing might not be something easy or that comes naturally. Noticing is mind training, and meditation is a wonderful tool for that.
2. JUST BE / SIT WITH YOUR EMOTIONS inner connection is giving yourself the space to sometimes be sad or angry, avoidance will not give us the opportunity to heal or grow. But make sure that you hold that space from a place of love.
PRACTICING INNER CONNECTION IS BUILDING A LOVING RELATIONSHIP WITH YOURSELF.
3. BREATHE - I know we all breathe, without it we would not be alive. But it is a particular way of doing it that include all of the prior aspects: noticing, being with your current experience and taking slow, deep and mindful breaths.
TRY IT! TRY IT RIGHT NOW!
Notice any sensations, thought that you are currently holding. Sit with it for a moment and breathe deeply with it.
This moment gives you enough distance to bring yourself to what really matters, to not let yourself get lost in the changes and curve balls that life throws at you. Empowering yourself to hold, nurture, heal and uplift yourself.
The amazing thing is that yoga has all of these tools in its tool box! So every time we step onto or mat it becomes that opportunity to reconnect with yourself and this month of August we will bring emphasis to this amazing benefit that yoga brings.
